Asus N550JK HDD Caddy

This HDD Caddy replaces the dvd-drive or blu-ray drive from the Asus N550JK to add a second SATA hard drive! The frontside of the HDD Caddy has a mounting holder for the plastic bezel of the dvd-drive. It will fit any 2.5" HDD or SSD. The caddy supports SATAI, SATAII, and SATAIII transfer speeds. The built-in lock screws make it easy to mount your second hard drive in the caddy. The caddy is build from aluminium which makes it light, sturdy and provides cooling for the harddrive. The inside of the caddy has a plastic holder to absorb noise and vibrations from a 2nd HDD.

The installation of the HDD Caddy is slightly different for the Asus Asus N550JK compare to its previous models Asus N56 and Asus N53. The optical drive component in the Asus Asus N550JK has been built within the laptop casing. In order to remove the optical drive you have to remove the screws (around 10) at the bottom of the laptop. Then you need to pry the upper case from the bottom case with a bank card or a case opening tool. When you have opened the housing you'll see the optical drive is secured with one single screw. Remove this screw and replace the optical drive with the HDD caddy. You can also use this procedure to upgrade the RAM memory, Wifi card, and upgrading the hard drive (to SSD). Please be careful when following this upgrade because the motherboard is now visibile and you can damage it (e.g. dropping screwdriver or spilling water). Make sure you do not touch the eletrical components due to static electricity of your body (use anti-static wrist stap).
